A Conversation with Lauren Lerner @livingwithlolo

Lauren is the Principal Designer and Founder of Living with Lolo, a top-rated design firm located in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Lauren’s design approach looks very different than most other firms’ because she focuses on how a space makes a person feel, rather than how it looks. There’s a science behind how specific colors, textures, lighting and other key elements make us feel in a space.

How did you get started in design?

My career path started in business and sales but I always loved dabbling in design any chance I could get, so I took a leap of faith and switched gears in my thirties. I feel my approach to business and design is unique from other designers because my path was quite different than most- in turn, I don’t follow “typical design textbook rules”. I enjoy nudging my clients out of their comfort zone to help create an ultra-customized end product that is magazine worthy! My style is eclectic, edgy, livable, and timeless.

I am incredibly proud of Living with Lolo’s accomplishments; however, I am most proud of the fact that I have managed to raise an amazing little boy, pursued my dreams, and showed others hard work does pay off.

“My design style is heavily influenced by the things I love, as opposed to conforming to a certain design style. Typically, I begin my design process by identifying a central element that I'm passionate about and allowing that inspiration to guide the rest of the space.”

How do you approach the creative process and problem-solving in design?

We kick off our creative process with an in-depth conversation with our clients to get an understanding of their lifestyle, how they envision their ideal life and the impact our design will have on it. By working through these details, we craft a space that perfectly aligns with their wants and needs, tackling any underlying problems they experience in their home.

How do you ensure the design meets the clients' expectations?

We conduct a design presentation for clients that showcases the best options for each space. Our design process thrives on trust, and we limit the number of revisions to ensure creative freedom. This approach allows us to craft unique spaces that perfectly align with each client’s unique vision.

Beautiful Central Elements Can Influence an Entire Design Style

My design style is heavily influenced by the things I love, as opposed to conforming to a certain design style. Typically, I begin my design process by identifying a central element that I’m passionate about and allowing that inspiration to guide the rest of the space. I believe good design has the power to fuel us, making us feel like our bravest, boldest selves. Great design has the simultaneous power to feel both calming and inspiring. The result is an eclectic mix my clients adore!
